CAMARILLO : Council Rejects Zoning for Condos

Share

A divided Camarillo City Council has rebuffed a request by the Spanish Hills Development Co. to allow the construction of 50 condominiums on a 5.4-acre parcel where current zoning would allow only five homes.

On a 3-2 vote Wednesday, the council disregarded a Planning Commission recommendation and reaffirmed the “rural exclusive” zoning for the parcel, located north of Crestview Avenue in west Camarillo.

Councilman Michael Morgan said Friday that the original plan for Spanish Hills, which calls for 154 large lots and 60 condominiums, had been negotiated with the approval of surrounding residents.

“Spanish Hills did not start out as a condo project, but as a nice housing subdivision with a golf course,” Morgan said.

Morgan said he would not support a change in the overall plan for Spanish Hills unless the developer showed him that the residents of Las Posas Estates and other neighbors did not mind.
