Sedgwick Nearly Breaks Record at Mesa Marin
Bill Sedgwick drove his Chevrolet Lumina to a near-record lap of 93.356 m.p.h. and won the pole position for Sunday’s $73,820 NASCAR Winston 400 stock car race at Mesa Marin Raceway.
Sedgwick of Van Nuys was the 19th of 20 first-day qualifiers Friday.
He got only a single qualifying attempt around the half-mile paved oval because his car was forced to go through inspection a second time because of a technical problem.
Said Sedgwick, the track record-holder at 93.565 m.p.h.: “We had been the fastest car in practice, and we went quicker. We’re happy with that.”
