Fresno Defeats 49ers, 42-14 : Big West: Bulldogs build 35-7 halftime lead on the way to improving to 5-0.

Mark Barsotti threw three first-half touchdown passes to lead Fresno State to a 42-14 victory over Cal State Long Beach in a Big West Conference game Saturday night.

Fresno State, 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, as Lorenzo Neal scored on a one-yard run before Barsotti had touchdown passes of three yards to Marty Thompson and 13 yards to Kelvin Means.

The 49ers (1-5, 1-2) scored early in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Charles Varrie.

Anthony Daigle scored on a one-yard run midway through the second quarter.

Just 17 seconds later, Barsotti tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Frank Jones one play after a fumble by Long Beach, giving the Bulldogs a 35-7 halftime lead.

Daigle also scored on a three-yard run in the third quarter.

Long Beach’s second touchdown came on a 30-yard pass from Mike McCoy to Mark Seay early in the third quarter, with Seay making a nice catch in the front corner of the end zone.

McCoy completed just three of 16 passes for 56 yards.

Fresno State, which ran its home unbeaten streak to 26 games, beat Long Beach for the 10th consecutive time.

Barsotti, who completed 12 of 20 passes for 140 yards, didn’t pass in the second half, and came out of the game at the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs finished with 541 yards in total offense and limited Long Beach to just 172 yards.

Ron Rivers led Fresno State’s ground game with 133 yards in just 13 carries.

Reggie Webb had 77 yards in 11 carries for Long Beach.
