ORANGE : 6 Trustee Candidates to Attend 2 Forums

The six candidates vying for two seats on the Orange Unified School District Board of Trustees are scheduled to participate in two public forums this month.

At each event, candidates will introduce themselves and answer questions from the public on a variety of district issues.

The district’s legislative coalition will sponsor the first candidates’ night at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in the district board room at 370 N. Glassell St.

Candidates will meet again at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Crescent Intermediate School, 5001 Gerda Drive, Anaheim.

Voters participating in the Crescent Intermediate forum are encouraged to submit topics of interest in advance to Candidate’s Forum, Crescent Intermediate School.

Incumbent Russell Barrios, 45, an aide to county Supervisor Don R. Roth, is seeking his third term as the representative of Area 6, which includes downtown Orange and parts of Santa Ana. Barrios will be running against Robert Viviano, 59, a businessman and educator. Viviano, who is endorsed by the Orange Unified Education Assn., lost a hard-fought race with Barrios in 1987.

Candidates running for the Area 2 seat currently held by Jeff Holstien are Maureen Aschoff, 46, a librarian for the Villa Park branch of the Orange County Public Library; Lawrence Labrado, 52, a businessman and educator; Daniel Matranga, 44, an independent insurance agent, and John McCain, 50, a businessman. Area 2 includes west Orange and parts of Garden Grove.
