SEAL BEACH : Rockwell Gets OK to Relocate Helipad

Share

The City Council has approved a conditional-use permit allowing Rockwell International to move its helicopter landing pad.

The company will move the helipad to the other side of its building in response to complaints of noise from nearby Leisure World residents, who petitioned local, state and federal officials last fall to urge Rockwell to move the landing pad.

Bonnet Winter, a Leisure World resident who lives across Westminster Avenue from Rockwell, praised the company and city officials last week for their efforts to deal with noise problems.

“I couldn’t be happier, and (for) all those building captains in the mutuals that collected the signatures, I owe them a thank you, and . . . (the Rockwell people) were pleasant, wonderful and gracious to deal with,” Winter said.

She was one of the leaders of an effort to gather more than 600 signatures for a petition asking the company to relocate the pad.

City officials say flights will be limited to 20 daily or 435 monthly, with hours of operation from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays. Only 15 flights per year will be allowed between 7 and 10 p.m.
