The Pentagon is offering a 900 phone number to allow military workers who fear their jobs may be eliminated to register with a national job placement network. The Defense Outplacement Referral System, or DORS, should be running by the end of October, a spokesman said. Applicants who wish to register with the network may call 1-900-990-9200, beginning at the end of this month. The call costs 40 cents a minute, or about $2 for the average call. Potential employers outside the federal government may call 703-614-5322 immediately for information. Potential job losses are due to budget cuts, force reductions or base closings.
