Despite an economic recession, lack of a major television contract and labor unrest, Commissioner John Ziegler said the NHL is prospering in its 75th season.

“From a broadcast standpoint, we believe we have a very sound position,” Ziegler said. “The fact that we’re not on a major network is not the negative to us it seems to be to others.

“Try to think on one hand of the number of businesses who’ve been around 75 years. The reason we are is because we have one of the greatest games ever conceived. Our product is excellent and will continue to get better as our athletes get better.”
