An inner ear infection may keep Houston quarterback David Klingler out of this week’s game against Southern Methodist. Klingler didn’t play in the second half of Saturday’s 29-17 loss to Arkansas.

After Klingler left the game Saturday, Houston Coach John Jenkins went with a rotation of Donald Douglas, Jimmy Klingler and Chandler Evans at quarterback. All three or the one who shines the most in practice this week could be in the lineup against SMU.

David Klingler completed nine of 20 passes for 52 yards in the first half against Arkansas but a halftime decision by Jenkins and team doctors put him on the sidelines.

“He told me not to take him out, but he had a hard time getting out of the chair,” Jenkins said. “It was obvious then that there was a big-time medical problem.”

Douglas, a redshirt sophomore who started four games at Florida before transferring to Houston, got the most playing time against the Razorbacks. He completed 10 of 20 passes for 108 yards but had two interceptions.

Jimmy Klingler, David’s younger brother, has completed three of five passes this season for 97 yards.

“It would be nice to get some playing time now, but Coach is trying to give each of us an equal chance so he keeps shuffling us,” the younger Klingler said.

Evans is three for three for 26 yards in his college career.
