Clippers Rally From Halftime Deficit but Finally Fall to Nuggets, 119-111

PITTSBURGH — Dikembe Mutombo scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Tuesday night to lead the Denver Nuggets to a 119-111 preseason victory over the Clippers.
The game featured former University of Pittsburgh teammates Charles Smith and Jerome Lane. Clipper forward Smith scored 16 points. Denver forward Lane had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Nuggets (1-2) used a 39-27 second quarter to take a 65-48 halftime lead, but the Clippers rallied in the third quarter to cut Denver’s lead to 87-86 on a short jump shot by James Edwards with 1:29 left.
The Clippers took the lead with 6:14 left on two free throws by Ken Norman, who scored 22 points. But Denver outscored the Clippers, 17-7, over the final six minutes to pull out the victory.
