Lighting Your Way to Safety

It’s not always possible to start your walk, run or cycling session before dark. To reduce injury risk for nocturnal exercisers, there is a new line of high-visibility activewear called LifeLights--including vests, belts and fanny packs--illuminated with battery-powered strips of lights. Prices vary. An adult vest is $39.95; the fanny pack, $24.95. (The line is available by mail order, (800) 468-5483.)
“Without endorsing specific products, we endorse the concept,” says Bob O’Brien, spokesman for the National Safety Council. Those who walk, run or jog at dusk or later should wear reflective clothing so they can be seen, he adds.
