Happy 100: Details of a five-year celebration to commemorate the first 100 years of motion pictures were announced Wednesday by the Motion Picture Centennial Committee, a nationwide assembly of more than 70 cultural institutions. The group also unveiled the official logo for the centennial, created by graphic designer and Oscar-winning filmmaker Saul Bass. The celebration will span 1991-96 and will include more than 35 projects, including a yearlong celebration of documentary cinema, symposiums and screenings examining various issues, and a gathering of critics from around the world to discuss media arts criticism. Actress Lillian Gish, whose life and career have spanned most of the 100 years, is the honorary chair.
