Cubs’ Essian Is 13th Manager Fired

Jim Essian of the Chicago Cubs, criticized for his handling of pitchers, Friday became the 13th major league manager fired this season, the second by the Cubs.
Essian had a 59-63 record after replacing Don Zimmer, who was fired May 22.
Jim Frey, the Cubs’ executive vice president of baseball operations, has been mentioned as a managerial candidate.
