New Look at Forum Means This Won’t Be Banner Year for Riley

Share

I am a loyal Laker and King fan and spend a lot of time (and money) at the Forum. On my first visit this season, on Oct. 10, to see the Kings, I noticed that Pat Riley’s banner honoring him as NBA “Coach of the Decade” was no longer hanging from the rafters. Pat was probably the greatest coach the Lakers have ever had. Just because he now coaches another team, are we to remove all traces of his former presence in Los Angeles? It is an insult to Mr. Riley and an insult to all Laker fans. Jerry Buss, where is your class?

Editor’s note: A Forum spokeswoman says the Riley banner has been removed, but so have the banners honoring Magic Johnson and Wayne Gretzky for their “Athlete of the Decade” awards. They were taken down “to make room for anything more that comes up.”
