Why a charter bus driver abandoned a group of 13 Las Vegas senior citizens after a Disneyland excursion remained a mystery nearly 24 hours after the incident.

The driver, known only as “Bill” to passengers, still hadn’t been identified or found late Saturday.

After the church-sponsored Disneyland trip, the seniors were abandoned at a Bob’s Big Boy restaurant next to Interstate 5 by the driver, who apparently was drunk. Before he left, members of the tour group saw the driver with beer and smelled alcohol on his breath.

One of the seniors told the restaurant’s assistant manager that the driver had been driving recklessly, prompting the assistant manager to call police.

At that point the driver left, saying he was going to get gas. He never returned, taking off with the group’s luggage and belongings.

After a four-hour delay, the stranded passengers boarded a van provided by the city of Santa Fe Springs and went home to Las Vegas.
