WORLD SERIES / ATLANTA BRAVES vs. MINNESOTA TWINS : BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT

The players aren’t the only ones who must adjust to the Metrodome. Wendelstedt, the National League’s senior Series umpire, said the league’s three umpires had difficulty in Game 1 adjusting to the lights and the noise.

“It was unusual umpiring first base, because with the noise I could not could hear the ball hitting the glove, and that is a big part of umpiring that position,” Wendelstedt said. “Also I know the umpires down the foul lines would turn around on fly balls and look right up into a bank of lights.”

Wendelstedt said the umpires are as excited as the players. “I’ve been focused on tonight since 7 a.m.,” he said Sunday afternoon.
