Sky Classic, the Canadian-bred 3-5 favorite, set a track record in beating Panoramic in a stretch duel in the 54th Rothmans International at Woodbine in Toronto in a race in which Izvestia, Canada’s 1990 Triple Crown winner, broke down and had to be destroyed.

Sky Classic, ridden by Pat Day, grabbed the lead from Forty Niner Days on the final turn and fought off Panoramic and jockey Steve Cauthen for his sixth consecutive victory. Tot of Rum was third.

Beau Sultan, owned by Wayne Gretzky, Bruce McNall and Allan Thicke, finished fourth.
