Cost Controls, Shoe Sales Help Cherokee Post Profit

Share

Cherokee Inc., a Sunland maker of casual apparel and shoes, reported a fiscal first-quarter profit of $64,000, compared with a year-earlier loss of $108,000.

Cherokee attributed the latest profit to cost controls and stronger results at its shoe division. The improved earnings came despite a 14% decline in Cherokee’s sales, to $53.8 million in the quarter ended Aug. 31 from $62.5 million a year earlier.
