World IN BRIEF : PAKISTAN : Scientist Reportedly Boasts of A-Arms

Abdul Qadeer Khan, Pakistan’s top nuclear scientist, was quoted as saying that his homeland has become a nuclear power. He told a gathering of business people in Karachi that his colleagues at a nuclear plant under his control are making sophisticated weapons, according to the Dawn, an independent daily newspaper. The scientist was not immediately available to clarify his remarks. Pakistan officially denies it has nuclear weapons, but much of the world, including the United States, believes otherwise.
