Miami Dolphin running back Sammie Smith, upset by profane fan reaction to his goal-line fumbles in successive games, says he may request a trade after the season.

As Smith walked to the locker room after Sunday’s loss to Houston, the crowd chanted. It drove him to tears.

“Realizing my 4-year-old daughter had to listen to those types of things being said about her father brought the situation to a new low in my estimation. As far as I’m concerned, what happened Sunday will never sit well with me,” Smith told the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.

The blood-alcohol content of San Francisco 49er linebacker Tim Harris was 0.19, more than twice the limit for being legally intoxicated in California, when he was charged with drunk driving in San Jose. If convicted, Harris faces the possibility of being suspended for four games under a new NFL alcohol-abuse policy.

X-rays of New York Jet quarterback Ken O’Brien’s injured foot were negative. He is expected to play when the Jets resume their schedule Nov. 3. . . . A Manhattan judge said he will appoint an arbitrator to hear a salary dispute involving former New York Giant Joe Morris and former Jet Mickey Shuler because NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue is too biased. Both players were cut just before the 1990 season. They say they were cheated out of large sums of money because the teams ignored their contracts.
