From Staff and Wire Reports

Reggie Jackson said the Oakland fire cost him not only his house but “my baseball memorabilia, my art collection, my gun collection, my bronze collection.”

It was his third major fire loss. A house at the same site burned in 1976, and his automobile warehouse in Oakland was destroyed several years ago. Jackson was in New Jersey when this week’s fire struck.

“I was devastated, absolutely devastated,” Jackson said.

“I don’t own a tie. I don’t own another pair of shoes, another shirt. It strips you. You’re helpless. Defenseless. This is the most devastated I’ve ever been. The only salvation is, I have my health.”
