Top-seeded Stefan Edberg extended his winning streak to 19 matches Thursday by beating Brad Gilbert, 6-2, 6-3, in the third round of the Stockholm Open.

Edberg’s string includes successive titles in Sydney and Tokyo--where he also beat Gilbert in straight sets--and his first U.S. Open.

Edberg’s winning streak is the longest of the year on the tour and two shy of matching his personal record.

Second-seeded Katerina Maleeva also won, 6-4, 6-4, beating Jo Durie.

“I started feeling ill this morning and at the start I just wanted to get off the court,” Garrison said. “One minute I feel hot, the next I feel cold.”
