Mortgage Rates Up: Fixed-rate mortgages averaged 8.91% this week, up from 8.82% last week, according to a national survey by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. This is the first increase in the fixed rate since July. On one-year adjustable rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 6.66%, down from 6.71% last week. The rates do not include add-on fees known as points.
