Paul Azinger said he did not want to become embroiled in a war of words with Seve Ballesteros over an incident in the Ryder Cup.

“The press is trying to have a field day with this thing, and I’m not going to play into their hands,” Azinger said of the Spanish golfer’s charge that Azinger had lied during a discussion of a rules infraction at the international competition last month at Kiawah Island, S.C.

“I don’t want there to be a running feud between Seve and I. I don’t feel there is.”
