SEALS OF THE WORLD by Judith...
SEALS OF THE WORLD by Judith E. King (Cornell University Press: $16.95). Originally published in 1964, “Seals of the World” remains the classic guide to the 34 species of pinnipeds: fur and true seals, sea lions and walruses. King’s discussions of anatomy, biology, habits, pathology and history are technical enough to be useful to a biologist, yet readable enough to please an armchair naturalist who wants to know more about the study of playful animals he sees on nearby coastal rocks--which are probably Californian Sea Lions ( Zalophus californianus ). Above is a male Atlantic walrus.
