Hustling in ‘Idaho’

Share

Andy Comiskey’s sanctimonious letter last Sunday linking male homosexuality with hustling must be refuted for its obvious absurdity. And his fatuous statement that Gus Van Sant’s “My Own Private Idaho” “legitimizes a way of life that destroys lives” reveals a homophobic bias.

Prostitution is the world’s oldest profession. Countless movies have used it as background to various relationship stories. Van Sant’s quirky new film is unique, in part, because the main characters are male.

Did the moralistic Comiskey write an equally outraged Calendar letter condemning “Pretty Woman,” in which Julia Roberts plays a common street hooker?
