Gino Torretta passed for 350 yards and two touchdowns to help No. 2 Miami defeat Arizona, 36-9, Saturday night in a nonconference game.

Punt-return specialist Kevin Williams ran back a punt 48 yards for a touchdown, his third of the season, and Carlos Huerta kicked three field goals as Miami (7-0) won its 13th consecutive game.

It was the Hurricanes’ 48th victory in a row against an unranked opponent.

It took Miami three possessions to score, with Huerta kicking a 28-yard field goal late in the first quarter.

Huerta added a 47-yarder on Miami’s next possession, after the Wildcats (2-5) had muffed a punt and given up the ball at their 36.

It took a bit more than a quarter for Miami to show flashes of the speed and quickness for which it is known. The Hurricanes led, 19-2, at halftime.

Arizona trailed, 29-2, before driving 80 yards in 11 plays, with Craig Gilbert scoring from the two with 2:26 remaining in the third quarter. It was the first rushing touchdown allowed by Miami this season.

Huerta missed a 44-yard field-goal try on the opening drive of the third quarter but got another attempt and made it after offsetting penalties nullified the play.

He also missed attempts of 52 and 51 yards.

After Huerta’s second field goal put the Hurricanes ahead 6-0, Torretta marched them 78 yards in four plays for a touchdown. As he was being tackled, he threw a 46-yard strike to Lamar Thomas--his 13th touchdown pass of the season.

Torretta, who completed 26 of 50 passes, also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Martin Patton in the third quarter.

After Thomas’ touchdown, two penalties forced Arizona to punt from its 10, and Williams fielded Adam Grand’s punt at the Arizona 48. He broke to the right sideline and tightroped the final 10 yards along the chalk to the cone marker.
