On French Canadians

I am writing in response to a letter published Sept. 22. The author, George Bromberg, stated that French-speaking Montrealers have become hostile toward the English-speaking minority. As a French Canadian, I believe that Americans should be made aware of the discrimination practiced against the French-speaking Quebecois in the past.
While Francophones have always made up the majority in Quebec, we were, throughout most of history, subjugated to English domination. In recent decades, the province of Quebec has experienced a revolution tranquille in which, as French Canadians, we have become proud of our heritage and have taken back what is ours. While this may cause considerable discomfort for the Anglophones residing in Quebec, it is by no means a problem for the English-speaking visitor.
