Countywide : Free Booklet Offers Benefits Advice for People With AIDS

Share

The Social Security Administrative offices in Ventura County next month will distribute a booklet detailing the kinds of disability benefits available for people with AIDS.

The publication is designed to simplify the process of obtaining Social Security or supplemental security income disability benefits, said Mary Ann Foushee, Social Security field representative.

Social Security benefits are available to people who are unable to work for a year or more because of a severe mental or physical condition or to people who are not expected to live, she said.

Foushee said people infected by the human immunodeficiency virus may qualify when they are no longer able to work or when they must severely limit the amount of work they do because of the condition.

The leaflet, “A Guide to Social Security and SSI Disability Programs for People With HIV Infection,” also tells how to expedite the claims process.

The booklet can be picked up starting in November at the county’s three Social Security offices.
