Watching the Twins in the World Series has been enjoyable rather than painful for Gary Gaetti, even though he left them last winter to sign a four-year, $11.4-million contract with the Angels.

“It’s hard for any player to watch another team in there, but as far as being a Twins thing, no, it’s not harder for me to watch,” said Gaetti, who was a key member of the Twins’ 1987 World Series championship team and still lives in a suburb of the Twin Cities. “I’m not on that team any more. I’m happy for them, but I have no regrets or anything.”

Gaetti said he had watched all but one Series game.

“It’s a great series, one of the best in recent years,” said Gaetti, who sent a congratulatory telegram to Manager Tom Kelly after the Twins won the American League pennant but planned to wait until after the Series to contact his former teammates. “It’s been great.”

It has also evoked fond memories of 1987.

“Some of the highlights go through my mind, like the (victory) parade,” the third baseman said. “And I know how emotionally draining it is for the players and their families. But I don’t spend time thinking about what was going on then. Life goes on.”
