The district attorney’s office has filed criminal charges against two Gage Middle School teachers and another school employee for alleged involvement in thefts of school property worth about $13,000.

Teacher Lena Duncan, 57, faces one count of receiving stolen property, and could receive a maximum three-year prison term if convicted. Teacher Winifred Julius Stratton, 41, is charged with one count of grand theft and one count of receiving stolen property. The crimes carry a maximum combined penalty of three years, eight months. Also charged in the case is Renza Lee Naylor, 40, an assistant plant manager with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The teachers would order equipment through Naylor, then Naylor would report the equipment stolen and sell it to the teachers, Deputy Dist. Atty. David Lopez said. Searches of the suspects’ homes turned up various items belonging to the school, including sports, stereo and video equipment, books, tools and trash cans, Lopez said.
