The Rev. Jesse Jackson will announce his presidential plans this weekend, an aide said amid indications that the two-time candidate may sit out the 1992 race for the Democratic nomination. Jackson invited friends and advisers to meet with him privately Friday and to “stand together with Rev. Jackson” when he announces his decision Saturday. “Regardless of the specific decision on the presidential race, we must strengthen our coalition and our message in these urgent times . . . ,” Jackson wrote in the invitation. A close adviser said Jackson already has made his decision. Two people invited to the meetings said the wording of the invitation and the nature of the events suggested he would not run.
