He’s a Good Shooter, Not a Great Scorer
On Oct. 29, The Times printed an excerpt from a book we wrote called “Rick Barry’s Pro Basketball Scouting Report.” Unfortunately, the excerpt gave the impression that we had written that new Laker guard Sedale Threatt was the second-best scorer --to Michael Jordan--among shooting guards in the league.
In our book, text following the excerpted passage--not printed in The Times--made clear that what we were saying was that Threatt last season had the second-highest field goal percentage among shooting guards.
Indeed, Threatt is an excellent percentage shooter and solid defender, but he’s by no stretch of the imagination one of the premier scorers--his career scoring average is 8.6 points a game--among the league’s shooting guards.
