COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Fullerton Defense Stops Golden West in 24-14 Victory

Share

For three quarters Saturday night, Fullerton College’s defense did plenty to make Golden West quarterback John Shipp uncomfortable.

And in the fourth quarter, the Hornets went a step further, making him absolutely miserable. Four sacks in the final 12 minutes led Fullerton to a 24-14 Mission Conference Central Division victory at Fullerton District Stadium.

The Hornets (5-2, 1-1 in the division) led, 17-7, early in the fourth quarter when Golden West (4-3, 0-2) had a chance to get back into the game on a fourth-and-two play at the Fullerton nine. But on the play, tackle Mike DeClark started the Fullerton fourth-quarter sack barrage, drilling Shipp for a six-yard loss.

When Golden West threatened later, Fullerton’s defensive front responded again. Art Lopez caused a fumble with a blind-side sack at the Fullerton 48 with six minutes left, and DeClark recovered to stop the Rustlers.

Two plays later, Hornet quarterback David Pierson threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Green to clinch the victory. The Hornets got two more sacks in the closing minutes to slow the final Golden West comeback attempt.

Demondre White and Charles Gibson scored rushing touchdowns for Fullerton in the first half. Shipp threw two touchdown passes, including one of 29 yards to Jacob Kulikoff to make it 7-7 in the first quarter.
