Two Mediterranean fruit flies and a guava fruit fly have been discovered in Los Angeles County, agricultural officials said Monday.

The Medflies, both males, were trapped Friday in avocado trees in the 1600 and 1700 blocks of Arlington Avenue in the Country Club Park area of Los Angeles, the officials said. The discoveries bring to eight the number of Medflies found since Oct. 7 in the neighborhood west of Koreatown. One has also been trapped in the city of San Gabriel. Crews had already been scheduled to spray malathion bait on the ground in the Arlington Avenue area today, so no special eradication measures will be necessary, officials said.

The guava fruit fly was discovered Friday in the 600 block of East Via Barola Street in Long Beach, officials said. It was the first guava fly trapped in the county since 1989. Agricultural Commissioner Leon Spaugy said that 100 additional traps will be put out to determine the extent of the infestation.
