The 288 slot machines confiscated in a raid last week on three East County gambling halls contained more than $21,000, officials said.
Late Friday afternoon, San Diego Sheriff’s Department officials finished counting quarters from the machines taken Wednesday from the Barona, Viejas and Sycuan Indian reservation parlors.
Machines from Sycuan in El Cajon held the largest cache, $11,993, followed by Barona in Lakeside with $7,620 and Alpine’s Viejas with $1,416, sheriff’s spokesman Dan Greenblat said. The slot-type machines were valued at about $705,000.
The raid was the first action in an announced statewide crackdown on illegal gaming machines on Indian reservations. A 90-member task force made up of the Sheriff’s Department, San Diego Police Department and San Diego district attorney’s office conducted the simultaneous seizure. Two Nevada Gaming Commission officials took part to help trace machines illegally manufactured in Nevada.
