93 Poker Machines Seized From Indians

FRIANT, Calif. — Fresno County sheriff’s deputies have seized 93 video poker machines at an Indian bingo parlor near Millerton Lake.
The machines were confiscated Saturday as part of a statewide crackdown on Indian bingo parlors by the attorney general’s office, which considers them illegal slot machines.
However, a spokesman for Table Mountain Bingo Parlor contended that the video games are not slot machines because they do not have handles and do not provide direct cash payouts.
Winnings on bets ranging from $1 to $20 are tabulated on a piece of paper that feeds out of the machine, then are collected at a paymaster window.
