Corey Pavin became PGA player of the year by a narrow margin over Fred Couples.
Pavin finished with 58 points, two ahead of his Ryder Cup teammate Couples, to succeed Nick Faldo of Britain.
Pavin earned 20 points for two tournament victories, 20 points for leading the money list with $979,430 and 18 points for finishing second in the Vardon Trophy standings with a 69.63 scoring average.
Couples, who also won two tournaments, won the Vardon Trophy with a scoring average of 69.59. He finished third in the money list with $791,749.
