A 30-year-old Sylmar man was killed when the car in which he was riding ran a stop sign, collided with a second auto and overturned, Los Angeles police said Thursday.

Leonard Varela was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills after the accident Wednesday night. The driver of the car, Alberto Guerrero, 26, had a blood-alcohol level more than double the legal limit, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of murder because of a prior drunk-driving conviction, Detective Don Bellante said. Guerrero was being held at the Van Nuys Jail without bail.

The accident occurred about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Bledsoe Street and Glenoaks Boulevard in Sylmar.
