Santiago Benefits From Kennedy Turnovers

Travis Tisor rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown to lead Santiago to a 23-7 Garden Grove League victory over Kennedy at Handel Stadium.

Santiago (3-6, 3-3 in league) benefited from seven Irish turnovers that led to three Cavalier scores. Mike Carrasco’s one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was set up by a fumbled punt, making the score 7-0. Scott McGarrh then kicked a 35-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the first half to give Santiago a 10-7 lead. Minh Nguyen intercepted Kennedy quarterback John Guthrie to set up the score.

Kennedy (2-6, 1-5) scored its only touchdown on a 29-yard pass from Guthrie to Wesley Morris in the second quarter. Morris caught three passes for 43 yards on the drive and finished with five receptions for 72 yards.

Santiago extended its lead to 16-7 with a minute left in the third quarter on Tisor’s two-yard run that followed McGarrh’s interception at the Irish 23-yard line. The Cavaliers intercepted Guthrie four times in the game. Carrasco closed the scoring with a four-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes 24 seconds to play.
