The City Council has approved an application for more than $600,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds.

The federal funding, which is distributed by the county, is aimed at eliminating urban blight. Tustin has received $100,000 to $110,000 yearly over the last few years. Cities typically receive much less than they request.

The council voted to place residential rehabilitation at the top of its list of priorities. Among the council’s plans for the funds is a $100,000 allocation to improve housing for senior citizens and low- to moderate-income household and apartment dwellers in the southwest portion of the city.
