Ventura 35, Hueneme 21--Senior quarterback Trevor Rumsey rushed for 100 yards in eight carries and three first-half touchdowns to lead the visiting Cougars.
Rumsey had touchdown runs of nine, 65, and one yard to help Ventura (8-1, 6-0) secure at least a share of the league title.
Ventura senior defensive back Elan Walshe grabbed his region-leading ninth interception in the second quarter at the Ventura 43 and it led to a one-yard score by Rumsey.
Walshe, who also plays wide receiver, caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Rumsey (five of 10, 97 yards) just before halftime to give the Cougars a 28-0 lead.
Hueneme (0-9, 0-6) avoided the shutout when Dave Andrade (16 for 32, 203 yards) threw touchdown passes of five yards to Ahmad Moore and 13 yards to David Simerly in the second half. Andrade also scored on a one-yard run.
Ventura rolled up 370 yards in offense. Sophomore running back Jake Kochel (four rushes for 98 yards) sprinted 55 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
