Ice Cube: Profound as He Wants to Be

Hilburn’s insistence that Ice Cube should have “sanitized” the explicit lyrical content of his newest project in order that the “wider audience” (white people) would find it acceptable smacks of white male paternalism at its worst.

We as black people reserve the right to express our views of the world in any way we see fit. The approval or potential offense to white listeners is not to be taken under consideration.

Anger by its very nature is offensive and confrontational. So obviously, the intensity of that anger will be reflected in the words one chooses to use. To temper one’s response to oppression for the sake of lessening the trauma of confrontation for the guilty is to add insult to injury.

In this case, a spoonful of sugar does not help the medicine go down!
