Born in East L.A. (KTLA Monday at 8 p.m.), Cheech Marin’s exuberant 1987 comedy, is at once satirical and Chaplinesque. Marin casts himself as a third-generation Mexican-American deported as an illegal alien.

Satisfying, feverishly inventive and a technical marvel, the 1988 Who Framed Roger Rabbit (CBS Tuesday at 8:45 p.m.) is a live action-animation blockbuster, a sort of inked-in film noir with outrageous sight gags. Bob Hoskins stars as a seedy gumshoe, and the film’s mystery plot involves a last, great roundup of cartoon stars.

Tom Holland’s 1988 Child’s Play (KTLA Thursday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m.) is like an exceptionally jolting roller-coaster ride through an especially scary tunnel of love; it’s the first--and by far the best--of the three films featuring the sinister talking doll Chucky. Catherine Hicks and Alex Vincent star.

The 1982 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (KCOP Thursday at 8 p.m.) recaptures the spirit of the TV cult series as Paul Winfield and Walter Koenig scout for a dead planet as a site for a life-generating experiment when they come across Khan (Ricardo Montalban, a fine, hiss-inspiring villain), an old nemesis of Adm. Kirk (William Shatner).

The 1988 A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (KTLA Friday at 8 p.m.), directed by Renny Harlin, is probably the best of the Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) series, a superior horror picture that balances wit and gore with intelligence and imagination.

Lawrence Kasdan’s enjoyable but elusive 1985 Silverado (KCOP Friday at 8 p.m.) is affectionate and caring for the form but a little too cooled out to be truly satisfying as it tells of four very different men joining forces to go after the bad guys. With Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner and Danny Glover,

Back to School (KCOP Saturday at 6 p.m.), the 1986 summer hit, is a big belly laugh of a comedy that casts Rodney Dangerfield as a college freshman.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (CBS Saturday at 8 p.m.), a 1987 John Hughes comedy, is a virtual catalogue of worst travel experiences that’s at its best when it’s left to Steve Martin and John Candy, masters of physical comedy.

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (KCOP Saturday at 8 p.m.) is a slam-bang 1985 action-adventure that deftly sends itself up; Fred Ward stars.

Lasse Hallstrom’s wonderful 1985 Swedish film My Life As a Dog (KCET Saturday at 10:45 p.m.) is at once funny and touching, about a resilient 12-year-old (Anton Glanzelius) coping with a new life with relatives in the country.
