THOUSAND OAKS : Panhandler Robs Man Outside DMV
A panhandler who had asked for a quarter robbed a 20-year-old Thousand Oaks man of $400 Friday afternoon in the parking lot of the Department of Motor Vehicles, authorities said.
Moises Martinez was on his way to pay for his car license at about 4 p.m. at 1810 Avenida de los Arboles when he was approached by a man who asked him for change, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Ditzhazy.
“It was a ‘Do you have a quarter’ type of thing,” Ditzhazy said.
Martinez said no, and the two were going their separate ways when the robber saw Martinez take some money from his glove compartment, Ditzhazy said. The man grabbed the money out of Martinez’s hand and ran.
