SMOKEOUT: The way Neil Simon wrote it, these soldiers in “Biloxi Blues” were sitting around and one lights up a cigarette. . . . But you won’t see any smoking in the High School of the Arts production of the play at Los Alamitos High School tonight. One stage mother objected during rehearsal. Sure enough, the smoking violates the state code. “It’s not a form of censorship at all,” says Ralph Opacic, the school’s executive director. “It has to do with age-appropriateness.” Tell that to Neil Simon.
