A tape secretly made by former Auburn football player Eric Ramsey in 1990 includes segments in which Ramsey asks Auburn Coach Pat Dye about a bank loan and says an assistant coach had been “helping” Ramsey, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.

The newspaper said Ramsey did not specify what kind of help he had gotten and that parts of the tape were vague in meaning and barely audible.

Ramsey has alleged that Auburn coaches and boosters gave him financial support in violation of NCAA rules and that he has tapes to back up his claim.

He and his attorney, Donald Watkins, have played some of the tapes for reporters for the Birmingham News, but none in which Ramsey talked to Dye.

The taped conversation reported by the Advertiser was heard by a reporter for the newspaper in September when the story first broke.
