MEDIA WATCH: Though it’s only mid-November, the year is already over so far as Spin magazine is concerned. The December issue, which hits newsstands this week, contains the editors’ picks for the 20 best albums of 1991. Scottish group Teenage Fanclub is the surprise list-topper, ahead of such usual suspects of the alternative set as R.E.M., Nirvana, the Pixies, Public Enemy and Soundgarden.

Also check out the December Spin for what’s billed as Miles Davis’ last interview--even though it went down at Thanksgiving ’89. In the often bizarre transcripts of several conversations between Davis and writer Jennifer Lee (Richard Pryor’s ex-wife) in the late jazz great’s New York apartment--which more resemble testy, sexy private chats than a formal interview--Davis goes through apparent mood swings and keeps accusing Lee of “acting white” when she questions his hostility. This kooky post-mortem is as completely superfluous as it is fascinating.
