Grants Totaling $82,500 Given for AIDS Projects

The Santa Monica City Council has appropriated $82,500 for two AIDS projects, including a grant to a Westside clinic that offers free testing for acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

“Because of Magic Johnson, I felt we needed to fund AIDS testing,” said Mayor Judy Abdo. Since the Lakers superstar announced last week that he was infected with the AIDS virus, testing centers have been swamped with customers.

A $17,500 grant was given to The Westside Women’s Health Center in Santa Monica, the only anonymous free testing site in the Westside. For information, call (310) 450-2191.
