From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A powerful Pacific Northwest storm packing 79-m.p.h. winds left more than 130,000 homes and businesses without power. Thunderstorms dumped hail over Puget Sound in Washington state and up to six inches of snow fell in southern Oregon. The 79-m.p.h. winds hit near Seattle, with a 70-m.p.h. reading in another Seattle area and a 69-m.p.h. recording in nearby Bellingham, the National Weather Service said. The storm severed high-voltage lines and toppled utility poles, cutting power to up to 400,000 western Washington customers but there were no reports of injuries.
