A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shook Tokyo and surrounding areas Tuesday, forcing trains to stop and Haneda Airport to be closed. There were no reports of casualties.

The quake, centered about 50 miles under Tokyo Bay, jolted buildings for several seconds beginning at 5:24 p.m., startling office workers.

Bullet trains were halted for 13 minutes. Other commuter trains stopped for up to 80 minutes while workers checked tracks.
